What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is performed in our office and requires no anesthesia. Using either a gentle flow of micro abrasive crystals (picture above), or special diamond coated tips that require no particles, the aesthetician removes or exfoliates the outermost layers of the epidermis (picture to the left). The aesthetician can control the power of the crystal spray, from a gentle buffing of the skin to deeper exfoliation where needed. At a medium power, microdermabrasion might be compared to results similar to those of a light TCA peel. Similarly, various diamond texture tips are available to individualize your treatment. A full-face treatment generally takes about 20 minutes.
Following the treatment, your skin will appear more radiant and youthful as layers of compacted dead skin cells is removed to reveal fresh radiant cells. You may appear lightly pink for a very short period of time, but there is no obvious redness. Some patients say their face feels as if their skin has been deep cleansed. In the case of a deeper treatment level for more blemished or thicker skins, the skin will appear slightly red and tight for a few hours. Microdermabrasion can improve fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage and uneven skin tone. It treats blackheads, whiteheads, ingrown hairs, pigmentation (brown spots), and gives the skin a healthy-looking glow.
We often encourage you to use this in conjunction with a chemical peel to maximize the skin improvement. This combination treatment is known as a Micropeel.
Microdermabrasion is ideal for:
Individuals who don’t want to undergo the discomfort, longer healing time, and possible side effects of alternative skin resurfacing treatments such as laser skin resurfacing. Microdermabrasion is ideal for individuals who want a nice gradual clinical improvement of their skin’s appearance without any side effects or down time.
Individuals who want to gradually reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, age spots, uneven skin tone, mild acne scaring, blotchiness, and at the same time cause stimulation of new elastin and collagen fibers in the skin – this is the treatment for you.
Maintain healthy skin that was previously treated by Laser Fotofacial or other skin renewing procedures.
