Laser Tattoo Removal
If Your Tattoo No Longer Fits Your Current Lifestyle – WE CAN HELP!
Tattooing has been around for thousands of years. So has the desire to remove them! If you regret your tattoo, then you are in the majority as more than 50% of individuals with tattoos regret that they had them done. What may be a teenager’s way to express identity will often become a barrier to employment and even relationships! Worse, the effects of age and gravity can certainly turn a masterpiece into a major defacement. WE CAN HELP! Laser Tattoo removal is a proven method for removing your tattoo. It doesn’t matter the reason – that it has changed over time and no longer looks good, if the artist messed up and it was improperly created, or it has simply outlived it’s welcome such as with a change in relationship or search for better employment.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the treatment work?
Tattoos are created by injecting colored pigment into small deep holes made in the skin. Regardless of whether a tattoo artist or an untrained individual injects the pigment, the marks or designs are relatively permanent. The Alma Laser Renew uses is a Q-switched Nd:YAG, which is the most frequently used laser type for tattoo removal. During treatment, pulses of light from the laser are directed onto the tattoo. Tattoo ink absorbs the short pulsed high peak energy pulses so quickly that they create a photo-acoustic “blasting” effect within the pigment clusters. This blasting breaks the tattoo ink into much smaller particles that can be more easily removed over the next several weeks by the body’s natural filtering system, our macrophages.
How many treatments are required?
Laser sessions are scheduled at four week intervals to allow the body’s filtering system to remove the pigment released from each treatment. Additional treatments will be necessary to achieve the maximum benefit you desire. The number of treatments is determined first by how you feel the end result appeals to you, second by the age of the tattoo as the body slowly removes injected pigment over time, and third by whether the tattoo was done by an amateur or a professional as professional equipment injects more pigment, including more colors, at a greater depth and is therefore more resistant to removal.
Is Laser Tattoo Removal safe?
Laser Tattoo removal is safe but it can have short term side effects. Thes common side effects include blistering of overlying skin, pinpoint bleeding, bruising, redness and discomfort around the treated area. These effects are not dangerous and will resolve over time. Occasionally small areas of scarring of the skin can occur. Also, because we are treating pigments or ink, various colors are removed more easily than others, and some like white pigment can contain iron that can change to a brownish rusted appearance that can “stain” the skin. Limiting sun exposure after treatment will greatly minimize the risk of complications.
Is Laser Tattoo Removal painful?
Laser Tattoo removal is not without discomfort. Most that have had a tattoo removed without anesthesia would say it hurts about as much as when they had the tattoo placed. Like a strong rubber band snapping your skin with each laser pulse. We offer topical anesthesia for those that wish to use it which greatly increases comfort. This can be applied 15 minutes or more prior to the procedure and greatly improves the comfort level. For those with a lower threshold of pain tolerance or work in sensitive areas we can provide injection anesthesia using a very small caliber needle. This can make the procedure almost painless, but of course this can involve multiple injections depending on the size of the treatment area.
Will there be any downtime?
There is usually no down time after Laser Tattoo removal but this an individual issue. This depends on the tattoo’s location and the amount of pigment in the tattoo which can lead to areas of skin blistering or bleeding that may bleed or ooze serous fluid until healed. These areas should be covered during the initial healing process until the skin is again intact. You will need to perform routine skin care to the treated area just like you did after the tattoo was placed. You should not exercise excessively for a couple days following the procedure.
What can be expected post-treatment?
After treatment, a sunburned sensation may occur, and some redness may appear around the treated area. This will disappear in a few days. A cold compress may be applied to the treated area.
Who are candidates for Laser Tattoo Removal?
